GENERAL RULES

1. The race will be run on the following categories: Male Age-Group: 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74 and 75 or older. Female Age-Group: 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74 and or older; Male Professional; Female Professional.
 
2. The minimum age for participation is 18 years old. As regards these rules, the reference date for the contestant's age is the day of the race, August 28th, 2010.


3. The athlete who, in the period from Sptember 2009 to August 2010, competed as a professional/elite in ½ Ironman and Ironman events, or similar events with the same distance, anywhere in the world, will only be able to participate in Ironman Brasil 70.3 in the Elite Category.
 
4. The race starts at 9:30 AM of August 28th, 2010.

5. Registration closes at June 30th or when the 800 athlete limit is reached.

6. The entry fee is US$ 350.00 (tree hundred and fifity U.S. dollars) for all athletes.

7. Athletes withdrawing on or before July 31st 2010 will receive half of the entry paid. After July 31st 2010, there will be no refunds.

8. It is not possible to transfer the registration to other people or to forthcoming Ironman Brasil 70.3 races.

9. After registration all the athletes will receive a mediacl form. Fill it out and send back to the Organization. Also, all the athletes have to be aware of the Regulations, Standarts and Procedures and the Race Program.

10. The race kit will be delivered on the 26th of August, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and 27th of August, from 9.00 AM to 6.00 P.M. The athlete who doesn’t get the race kit on these days and schedules will not be able to start the race.

11. To get the race kit, it’s mandatory to present a photo ID or passport. When getting the kit the athlete has to sign the medical record form.

12. The athlete who gives his/her KIT to someone else, as well as the athlete who receives it, will be suspended for two years from any Ironman race around the world.

13. IRONMAN BRASIL 70.3 will qualify 50 athletes for the FORD IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, to be held in FLORIDA – USA, on November 13th, 2010. Slots distribution will be proportional to the number of registrations in each category. The slot distribution will be revealed on the week event. Only the athletes who complete the race within a time limit of 5% higher than the winner in his/her category will apply to one of the slots for the professional athletes. In case the athlete does not present a result within this limit, the slot will not be offered, even though it is available.

14. The slots roll down procedure for the FORD IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, to be held in FLORIDA – USA, on November 13th 2010, will be on August 29th, at 10.00 AM To be eligible for the slot, the athlete has to be present personally at the roll down. The entry fee for the 70.3 World Championship has to be paid in cash with American dollars. No exceptions. If the athlete does not show up, his/her slot will be given away to the next qualified athlete on the same gender/age group. In case that it remains a slot of a determinate gender, the slot will be redirected to the category which has the most number of athletes. The entry fee for the FORD IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - 2010 will be US$ 325.00.

15. Every athlete registered at the race will be covered with an insurance policy from the swim start until the end of his/her participation on the race. The Organization is not responsible for any problems the athlete may have before or after the race.

16. The Organization will cover the amount of R$ 3,000.00 (three thousand reais) related to the expenses with doctor and hospital. Expenses exceeding this amount will be under the athletes’ responsibility. In case of disability or death, the Organization, by means of the insurance company, will pay R$ 30,000.00 (thirty thousand reais).

17. There will be two Transition Areas.Transition Area 1, at the beach, and Transition Area 2, at the Park Beto Carrero World.

18. Every athlete must check his/her bike at the Transition Area 1 on August 27th, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM .

19. Bike check-in is mandatory at the Transition Area, on 08/27, from 2 PM to 7 PM. The athlete must present the equipments he/she will use in the competition: bike, helmet with the number sticker on the frontal part, and the special needs bags for bike and run. After check-in procedures, bikes will be set on the respective holders in the Transition Area and helmet and bags will be delivered by the athletes at the changing tent.

20. Bike and Run gear bags must be delivered by the athletes on Friday, 27th, at the changing tent, from 2.00 PM to 7.00 PM.

21. The Organization is not responsible for athletes' belongings lost inside or outside the Transition area; it will, however, keep a room for the "lost and found" items.

22. The Lost and Found sector will be open for delivery of material on August 29th from 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM. After this period, the material that has not been picked up will be forwarded to charity entities.

23. The athlete will have, from the moment of the start, up to 01.15 hours to complete the Swimming section, up to 5.00 hours to complete the Bike section and 8.00 hours to complete the Running section. The athlete who exceeds the cutoff time for any of these courses will be disqualified, being unable to proceed in the race. After the time limit for each type of sport, the security facilities for each section will be dismantled.

24. The athlete who does not strictly conform to the course for each section will be eliminated or disqualified at any time if there is proof from the race’s official documentary controls.

25. There will be timing mats to control athlete’s passages throught out the course.

26. There'll be two aid stations at each bike lap, being six passages and three aid stations at each lap run, being eight passages.

27. The athlete must change clothes only inside the changing tent. In case he/she does not do it, he/she will be penalized with 5 minutes to the total time, and in the relapse the athlete will be disqualified.

28. Each athlete is responsible to remove and place one’s own material in the specific bags at the Change Tent.

29. The use of the ankle tag chip provided by the Organization is mandatory for all contestants during the whole race.

30. At raceday, Saturday, the transition area 1 will be opened at 7.30 AM and will be closed at 9.10 AM.

31. Any physical or moral offense from an athlete towards any member of the Organization will be penalized with disqualification, and the offender may be suspended from any IRONMAN event promoted by Latin Sports.

32. The medical care service will be able to remove from the race the athlete who is unable to continue, according to medical criteria.

33. Every athlete who finishes the whole race will receive a medal. The top three finishers in each age group category will receive a trophy. The top five finishers in the Professional category, both sexes, will receive a trophy and cash award.

§One. Money prizes will only be given to the winner athletes of the Elite category who are within a time 8% higher than the race winner’s time, in his/her category. If there is(are) any higher time(s), money prize will be divided and given equally to the one(s) who is(are) within this parameter.

34. The organization has the power of taking any decision concerning the rules.

35. Any doubts arising from application or interpretation of race-specific Technical Rules will be analyzed by the Race's Referees.


Swim (1.900 meters)

36. The event will have one mass start, and the Elite category athletes of both sexes will be placed in front of the athletes of the other categories. The course will be done in one lap of 1.900 meters.

37. The athlete must have his/her number marked on his/her body by an Organization member. The body marking will be done next to the Transition area 1 on the day of the race, Saturday, from 7.30 AM to 9.10 AM.

38. The athlete must go around the buoys. The athlete, who doesn’t do it, will be disqualified.

39. The athletes are obliged to wear the swimming cap given by the organization. The athlete, who doesn’t wear it, will be disqualified.

40. Its forbidden to use any kind of auxiliary equipment to swim. The athlete who does it, will be disqualified (except goggles and wetsuit clothes, if allowed).

41. The use of a wetsuit permitted to the athlete of age group. The professional athlete can only compete wearing a wetsuit at water temperature bellow 22ºC. The Event’s Direction will measure the water temperature on the days of the Technical Congress, as an alert, informing same of the measurement and, one and a half hour before the start, a new measurement will be taken, which result will be announced on the sound system, to determine whether the use is permitted or not.

42. If a professional athlete uses wetsuit without the event’s direction permission, he or she will be disqualified.

43. The athletes are obliged to get out of the water 15 minutes before the race starts. The athlete, who doesn’t do it, will be disqualified.


Bike (90 km)

44. The athlete must always wear a fastened helmet when in contact with his/her bike. In case the athlete doesn’t do this, he/she will be disqualified.

45. El corso del ciclismo tiene 90 km y será recorrido en un circuito de tres vueltas.

46. The race number must be visible on the bike, on the athlete's back and on helmet front; it shall not be altered from its original format. Failure to meet this rule will result in a yellow card penalty.

47. The athlete has to push his/her bicycle until the mounting lane and to get off the bicycle before the dismount lane. In case he/she fails to do it, he/she will be penalized with 5 minutes to the total time.

48. The race is a non draft race. The athlete has to keep a minimum distance of 10 meters from the athlete before him/her. If the athlete does not obey he/she will be given a yellow card.

49. The athlete will have 20 seconds to overtake. If the athlete does not obey he/she will be given a yellow card.

50. Passing is determined when the athlete puts his front wheel side by side to the rear wheel of the athlete being overtaken. The athlete being overtaken will not be able to react until the passing is completed and he/she is out of the drafting zone of the passing cyclist. If the athlete being overtaken fails to observe this rule he/she will receive a yellow card.

51. The athlete who receives two yellow cards or 1 red card will be disqualified, being unable to continue the race.

52. When the athlete receives the yellow card penalty, he/she is forced to stop for the Referee to mark a slash across his/her race number (back). The stop place for the procedure will be determined by the Referee, who will always consider safety issues. The athlete who does not stop will receive a red card.

53. The athlete who receives a yellow card penalty in the Bike course must comply with a 5 minutes stop in the specific area, in the transition from cycling to run. In case he/she fails to follow this rule, he/she will be disqualified.

54. At the Penalty Area the athlete is only allowed to drink water and go to the toilet; in case he/she needs medical attention, permission from the Area's Referee is required. In case the athlete does not observe this rule, he/she will be disqualified.


Run (21,098 km)

55. The use of the race number is mandatory. In case the athlete does not observe this rule, he/she will be disqualified.

56. The race number must be placed in the frontal part of the athlete's body, clearly visible and unaltered in any way. In case it is not, the athlete will receive a yellow card and will have 5 minutes added to his/her final time. In the relapse case, the athlete will be with the red card and will be declassified.

57. Individual non-participant escort runners or cyclists are prohibited. If a Referee identifies such an event, the athlete will receive a yellow card and will have 5 minutes added to his/her final time. The athlete who repeats the transgression once again, will be penalized with the red card and be disqualified.

58. Male participants must wear t-shirts. In case a male athlete does not wear one or if the t-shirt is rolled up, he will receive a yellow card and will have 5 minutes added to his final time. The athlete, who remains without t-shirt, will be disqualified.

59. Upon receiving a yellow card penalty, the athlete is forced to stop for the Referee to mark a slash across his/her race number.

60. The athlete who receives two yellow cards or 1 red card will be disqualified, being unable to continue the race.

61. Running course is 21.098 km long and will be raced in a two laps course.
